Samuel Stuetz Newport- A man is in custody, while another is wanted in connection with an assault.

In the assault on a Cocke County man, one man is in arrest and another is being sought. Jerrod Turner, 33, of Old 15th Road in Del Rio, told Cocke County Sgt. Max Laughter that he was riding with Meghann Elizabeth Hill, 40, of Banks Road in Newport, and another female when they came to a stop on Woodland Way in the Edwina subdivision at 2 a.m.

They came across a vehicle filled with five males near the Buddhist Peace Pagoda.

Turner claims the men started hitting him with rods and bats, causing major facial, head, and body injuries. He had $60 in cash, a cellphone, and a pocketknife stolen from him.

Two of the offenders were named by the victim as James Spence, 28, Banks Road, Newport, and Josh McKnight, 28, Filbert Street, Newport. Both guys were wanted on warrants at the time, according to laughter.

The assailants escaped after the attack on Turner. Turner was able to make his way to the adjoining home of Woodland Way owner Samuel Steutz.

When Laughter arrived on the scene, a white Honda Civic approached and he initiated a traffic stop. McKnight and Spence both bolted from the automobile and raced into the woods. Stuetz later tracked Spence out and apprehended him.

Spence was previously wanted for violating his probation, and he now faces new counts of aggravated assault, aggravated robbery, theft, and criminal trespassing.

McKnight is wanted on aggravated assault, aggravated robbery, theft, criminal trespassing, and refusing stop, halt, and frisk offenses. Hill is wanted on suspicion of aggravated robbery conspiracy.

Turner was taken to the Newport Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.

Criminal trespass is defined as anyone who enters or remains on property in the possession of another person with the intent to commit an offense or to intimidate, insult, or annoy any person in possession of such property, or who lawfully enters or remains on such property but unlawfully remains there with the intent to intimidate, insult, or annoy any such person, or with the intent to commit an offense.

In simpler terms, a person commits “Criminal Trespass” when he or she unlawfully enters or lingers on another person’s private property with criminal intent.

Criminal trespass includes two components: first, unlawfully entering another person’s property with criminal purposes, and second, lawfully entering that property but lingering unlawfully there with criminal intentions.

Aggravated robbery is a serious felony that involves the use of a weapon or the threat of harm while committing a crime. As a result, the sentence for aggravated robbery is significantly higher than the term for conventional robbery. An individual convicted of aggravated robbery may face several years or life in prison, depending on the jurisdiction and gravity of the act. The sentence for aggravated robbery will be determined by the individual’s prior criminal record, the seriousness of the occurrence, whether or not a weapon was used, and whether or not anyone was injured or killed during the commission of the crime.

In addition to jail, a convicted person may be ordered to pay penalties, and restitution, and to attend counseling or rehabilitation programs. The penalties for aggravated robbery are harsh, with the goal of discouraging people from engaging in this form of criminal behavior.

Aggravated robbery is a severe criminal offense in which a person uses a weapon to forcefully seize another person’s property or cause physical harm.

Robbery and aggravated robbery are both forms of stealing offenses, but the severity and use of force differ. The act of taking someone’s property by force or threat of force is defined as robbery.

This type of theft can be committed in various ways, such as snatching a purse or stealing a wallet from a victim. In contrast, aggravated robbery involves the use of a deadly weapon or the threat of deadly force during the commission of a theft. The severity of this crime is much greater than robbery, which is considered a misdemeanor in most states.

Aggravated robbery is classified as a felony offense, and those convicted of this crime can face steep penalties like lengthy prison sentences, hefty fines, and other legal consequences. Both robbery and aggravated robbery are serious crimes that warrant swift and effective prosecution to help ensure the safety and security of the public.

Threats of bodily harm are common in assaults. It is not necessary to make physical contact, but the person threatened must believe the threat is credible. Battery is typically defined as purposeful and unwanted physical contact, even if the intent is not to inflict harm.

A combined charge of “assault and battery” usually refers to both threats of bodily harm and actual physical contact. While most states consider assault and battery to be different offenses, not all do. Texas, for example, makes no distinction between the two.

Whether or not the states considered it a distinct crime from the battery, all states, and the federal government had laws making assault a felony. The severity of the threat and the surrounding circumstances will determine whether the assault charge is a felony or a misdemeanor. For example, under federal law, assault is classified as a felony punishable by ten years in jail and a misdemeanor punishable by one year in prison.

Similarly, states classify violence as a misdemeanor or a felony. A misdemeanor involves a possible jail sentence of less than a year. Felonies are punishable by imprisonment for more than a year.

Assault sanctions vary greatly depending on the circumstances of the offense. A misdemeanor will most likely be charged for an assault with no weapon and no major injuries. Some states will even classify an assault as an infraction with only a fine or jail time of less than thirty days if the injury was minor and no weapon was used. When weapons are involved, though, the consequences grow quickly. In New York, for example, a first-degree assault (using a deadly weapon and causing serious injury) carries a jail sentence of up to 25 years and a fine of up to $5,000.

Samuel Stuetz Newport- Has women empowerment helped in reducing assault cases all over the world

Creating safe and empowering public spaces for women and girls

Sexual harassment and other forms of sexual violence in public locations, both urban and rural, are common occurrences for women and girls around the world.

Women and girls face and fear various forms of sexual violence in public areas, ranging from unwanted sexual remarks and gestures to rape and femicide. It occurs on roadways, in and around public transportation, in and around schools, offices, public restrooms, water and food distribution facilities, and parks.

This fact restricts the freedom of mobility of women and girls. It limits their participation in school, job, and public life. It restricts their access to necessary services, as well as their enjoyment of cultural and recreational activities, and has a negative influence on their health and well-being.

Although domestic and workplace violence is now widely recognized as a human rights violation, sexual harassment and other forms of violence against women and girls in public spaces are often neglected, with few laws or policies in place to prevent and address it.

For the past ten years, UN Women’s global initiative, Safe Cities and Safe Public Spaces for Women and Girls has collaborated with leading women’s organizations, local and national governments, UN agencies, and other partners to develop, implement, and evaluate comprehensive approaches to preventing and responding to sexual harassment against women and girls in public spaces.

This multi-stakeholder global effort, which began in Quito (Ecuador), Cairo (Egypt), New Delhi (India), Port Moresby (Papua New Guinea), and Kigali (Rwanda), has evolved to encompass 50 cities and continues to generate great results with its partners.

In Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, for example, the effort has boosted the safety, hygiene, and comfort of women and girls working in markets and using public transportation.
