In addition to serving on boards of higher education, William is a current member of the Lee County Education Foundation’s board of directors and a former president of the organization. He was one of its founding members.
In addition, he served for 15 years and held the office of president of the Boys and Girls Club of Lee County, where he was one of the organization’s founding board members. He had served on the Raleigh board of the North Carolina Methodist Pension Fund.

William is a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church, where he has held positions on the staff parish, finance committee, administrative board, and lay leader. William, who was married to Parker, has resided in Sanford, North Carolina, for much of his life. He was born in Kinston, North Carolina, and lived in Snow Hill until he was ten years old.
They have a grandchild named Mary Charles, a granddaughter named Parker, a grandson named Grayson, and a daughter named Jordan who is wed to Murphy Paderick. William likes to play golf, go water skiing, go skiing in the snow, work out, go on vacation, and spend time with his family.
