MiTio Review | New Edition, 2023

MiTio or The Medical Interpreting and Translating Institute Online is a notorious education company with numerous negative reviews. Its owner, Dr. Nelva Lee doesn’t hesitate to use shady marketing tactics to promote itself.

In the following MiTio review, I have exposed how this company tries to manipulate consumers. Moreover, I have shared some of the many negative MiTio reviews where people point out how they lost their funds because of this organization:

Dr. Nelva Lee: Mastermind Behind MiTio

Dr. Nelva Lee MiTio

Dr. Nelva Lee is the CEO and founder of MiTio Inc. She claims that she has been running this firm since 2004 and has several qualifications. However, the BBB profile of her company says that it was established only in 2019. So, it’s rather difficult to determine which one is the truth.

A BBB (Better Business Bureau) profile is used by the commoners to find out about a particular company. The information in public domain, aids in deducing the worth of any firm. Investors and customers use it to track the record of the firm.

Along with MiTio, Dr. Lee used to work with different medical institutions and organizations.

Her qualifications show that she has a ton of experience in the medical sector.

Other notable people at MiTio are Dr. Pei Zhang, Lily Drysdale, Tatiana Ford, and Stephanie Yahya.

While I was researching to find out is MiTio legit, I thought Dr. Nelva Lee was a genuine person.

However, as I delved further, I realized that her past experience and expertise have no correlation with MiTio.

MiTio uses horrible marketing tactics to deceive clients, which is a huge red flag. If MiTio tuition was worth the cost, it wouldn’t need to black-hat marketing tactics to promote itself.

Black-hat marketing tactics refer to promotion techniques that are unethical and even illegal. They are highly looked down upon and shouldn’t be used at all.

However, businesses such as MiTio use them anyway. That’s probably because they are incapable of attracting clients without them.

In the next section of my MiTio tuition review, I’ll cover how this company deceives consumers and tries to get away with it:

Fake MiTio BBB Reviews You Can’t Trust (with Proof):

When you’d look up MiTio reviews, you’ll find their BBB page and their Facebook page. There are some very good reasons why Dr. Lee chose those two platforms and avoided others for maintaining her company profile.

Both of those platforms have their unique flaws. Let me explain each one of them in detail:

The Truth About MiTio Reviews on BBB:

MiTio reviews 1

At BBB, Mitio has a stellar 5 out of 5 rating with 7 customer reviews at the time of writing this article. They also have a BBB accreditation with an A+ rating. So far so good, right?

Unfortunately, no.

BBB’s rating system has been under a lot of criticism because of their crooked business model. The problem with BBB is that it requires companies to pay tens of thousands of dollars annually to earn its accreditation.

Yes, you need to pay more than $10,000 per year to have a BBB accreditation. If you pay this fee, you will have a near-perfect profile on their website.

In fact, CNN Money had done an extensive investigation on this matter. They found that businesses who were facing litigation for discrimination and scamming people had near-perfect ratings on BBB solely because they had BBB accreditation.

When you have a BBB accreditation, you can report complaints against your company as fake and BBB will remove them for you. That’s another huge issue with BBB.

There could have been a ton of complaints against this firm because of the poor quality of a MiTio diploma or the high MiTio cost, but they could have removed them from BBB easily. That’s a big reason why I decided to write my review here. I didn’t want to risk it.

It isn’t the only company that uses such reviews to manipulate consumers. Another notorious scammer called the BRIC Group uses a similar tactic to deceive people. All in all, you can’t trust the MiTio reviews and its rating on BBB because it has a paid membership there.

The Truth About MiTio Reviews on Facebook

Similar to their BBB page, they have a 4.8 rating out of 5 on Facebook. At a glance, you’d think this is a legitimate rating, however, it has its own issues.

MiTio reviews 2

Turns out, MiTio has used many corrupt strategies to manipulate its rating on Facebook.

A reviewer shared the following pictures, highlighting how MiTio uses fake profiles to increase its rating.

As you can see in the images below, the MiTio reviews are the same but are posted by two different users. It means, someone copy-pasted a 5-star review and posted it through another account. Why? To make it seem like MiTio has multiple happy customers.

Is MiTio legit

The reviewer had done further research after the above discrepancy. They found that other images MiTio used in its testimonials were stock images too:

MiTio tuition
image 1

When the reviewer exposed these issues, MiTio removed their Google My Business listing. They didn’t want others to catch wind of this.

You might wonder, “Why would a company use fake people to improve its rating?” The answer is simple. Money.

Companies like MiTio use fake reviews to promote themselves because reviews are crucial for today’s businesses. Not every person who clicks on MiTio’s FB page would suspect that most users are fake.

Similarly, if you had visited MiTio’s page without finding out the truth about their testimonials, you wouldn’t have an idea that they were fake.

Many companies think they can get away with using fake reviews to promote themselves. However, today’s consumers have gotten more vigilant and are becoming more aware. If you know how to spot a fake review, you can easily catch these companies.

The first sign of a fake review is that it shares very little detail about its experience. Also, if the reviewer’s profile is mostly empty and has only posted one review, chances are, it’s a fake profile.

Using fake reviews shows that the company doesn’t offer good products. After all, if it had genuinely good products, why would it resort to fake reviews?

MiTio Refund: Contact Them ASAP!

This education company has a complicated refund policy. They will give you a 100% refund if you request it before beginning or accessing the program within 72 hours of enrolling into the same.

You can ask for a refund from MiTio until you have completed 50% of the program. After that, they will charge you for the remainder of the course.

Here’s their current refund policy, if you’re interested:

Also, they don’t refund deposits and applications.

However, if you are eligible, you can ask for a refund from MiTio right now. It’s not too late.

Their refund policy is certainly not the best but they have revised it multiple times. Here’s the original one:

Why did they need to revise their refund policy multiple times? In most cases, it happens when too many customers request refunds.

When that happens, a company has to change its refund policy so it can keep more money. If you’re a student of a MiTio diploma program, I would recommend getting a refund. At least, you’ll be able to mitigate some of your loss.

What MiTio Users Actually Say About The Company: Dr. Lee Doesn’t Want You To See This

MiTio tuition is not the best one out there. In fact, it’s a scam.

I’m not the one saying this. Many people have reported this company as a scam. Some of these reviews were too painful to read. Once you’re through with them, you’d realize how many people have lost their hard-earned money because of this scam. Here are some of the MiTio reviews, Dr. Lee doesn’t want you to find out:

“A Scam”

This person’s father had enrolled for MiTio tuition. But once they made the payment, MiTio stopped responding to them.

Certainly, the people at MiTio scammed this person without hesitation.

“Dishonest”

MiTio

This person had enrolled for the 40-hour course and had trouble paying for the entire program due to the pandemic. They had lost their job because of COVID.

But, instead of understanding this person’s condition. Those scammers prevented them from finishing any of the classes they had paid for. They cost $350. On top of that, MiTio charged them $1,500 without their consent.

This reviewer is a retired senior and had to go through an excruciating process to get their money back.

“Fake, Dishonest, and Shady”

This person wanted to become a medical interpreter and found MiTio. Before signing up with this company, they decided to conduct some research with their husband.

This is the reviewer I mentioned previously. They shared multiple images that exposed MiTio’s fake reviews. After finding out that this company was using fake reviews to peddle its courses, they realized it wouldn’t be worth their money.

After this review, MiTio took down its GMB listing. Certainly, they didn’t know how to respond to these complaints.

Not Going to Sign Up

This review was in reply to the previous one. They were planning to sign up for MiTio tuition. However, when they found out how this company was using fake profiles to manipulate its ratings, they changed their mind.

This person also pointed out that no positive reviewer shares the kind of job they got after getting their MiTio diploma. That’s an interesting question. You wouldn’t find many MiTio reviews that share how they got a lucrative job because of the program. Is Mitio legit? I don’t think so.

“Not Engaging”

This person had signed up for the 60-hour medical interpreter training at MiTio. According to them, their experience was very poor. MiTio’s instructors give unengaging and incredibly simple assignments to their students. The person also pointed out that the live practice sessions offered zero feedback to them.

At the end of the review, they wonder why their experience was so different from others. Obviously, this reviewer didn’t think that some of those MiTio reviews could be fake.

Keep in mind that not everyone shares their experience online. Most people keep their experiences to themselves. If there are so many negative MiTio reviews available easily, imagine how many people actually got scammed.

It’s definitely unsafe to work with this company.

MiTio Review 2021: Verdict

MiTio is an unreliable and shady company. It resorts to fake reviews and paid partnerships to promote itself and has a ton of complaints online. Many students have expressed concerns over the ethics of this organization. Due to these reasons, I don’t think it would be safe to work with this firm.

You should check out other medical interpreting training institutes. Working with a company like MiTio can be highly dangerous and might even cause you a loss.

It truly a scam. They promised a secure job and earning a good paycheck. I haven’t received a single call in days. I will definitely not get my money back with them. I constantly emailing Dr.Lee and no replies. I’m so sad because there’s nothing I can do to get my money back. I took my savings for this and now I’m jobless and with no money. Please don’t do it. DO NOT DO IT. Save your money and your time. Search for other alternatives.

I was told that either provide proof of my language, which is Hindi or do the proficiency test, which was supposed to be covered in the tuition fees that I paid in full. I gave them a certificate from my country and they won’t accept that. They didn’t provide me with the proficiency language test the whole time I was doing the online course and then they sent me a test in “Tamil” other than my language. Now when I’m reaching the end, they are giving me hard time and saying I have to pay more to cover for the proficiency test, which was supposed be included in the course tuition. I mean if they don’t have certain language, then don’t try to enroll people and waste their money and time. As I have invested all day long of working on this 160 hour course and finished in less than 6 weeks. And getting what at the end?! ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ! SCAM SCAM SCAM…. MiTio sucks and so does this so called Dr. Lee. She never cooperates and not nice either as the enrolling agents say. ????☹️ very disappointed with this institute! Wish I had never got myself stuck in this course and waste my time and money!!!

I’m so glad I googled and found this page. Obviusly, there are more and more scammers online. You’ll likely to fall into a trap unexpectedly.
I just Spoke to the representative today, she asked me lots of questions and emphasize on 50k you will make a year and so on.
I kept looking at the “scam like” sign on my phone and googled while talking to her. LOL, when it cames to the 2700 tuition and deposit, I know this is a scam.
these days, I have been experiencing scam after scam and more scam. First it was upwork, the Mitio. My god, this world is crazy.
Please wipe up bright your eyes and don’t get trapped!

There’s better ways to market and sell courses. A company doesn’t have to lie to people to sell its products. That’s just obscene. I had no idea Mitio would be that kind of an organization. I’m glad I didn’t sign up there.

I hate it when companies use cheap ways to dupe consumers like do they think everyone is stupid?! I just don’t get what Mitio was thinking when they were adding those fake reviews on their profiles. This is not 2015. People can see through your nonsense Mitio.

I signed up for a 160 hour medical interpreter program for 1,890 dollars. Once I realized how unprofessional and outdated their program really was it was too late to cancel and receive a refund. I did half of the program so 80 hours, but it’s definitely not as advertised. You really have to be bilingual to make it as an interpreter.

I believe this program is no where near acceptable to become a certified medical interpreter. The materials in the program were very outdated, the quizzes were only 4-5 questions long, and there was no internship to speak of. The live sessions were a joke, useless, repetitive sessions with the same info over and over again.

I feel that I was taken advantage of. There is no way I could even get a legitimate job out of what I got from Mitio’s program.

Also their website is misleading and down right fraud this is what is stated on the website:

“Our diploma program offers not only comprehensive training, but also exclusive job opportunities with MiTio upon completion of the course. Our 40% off tuition option includes cost of all textbooks and language testing fees.”

      DIPLOMA COURSE
This tuition option covers all course costs, including proficiency testing, 24 hours of live practice sessions, and textbooks. By paying up front before you begin your training, you’ll take advantage of a 40% percent price reduction.

      “This Course Includes:

Proficiency testing to qualify for enrollment
Interactive video lectures and online training resources that lay out course material in a clear and engaging way
All textbooks used in the course
24 hours of live practice sessions with a MiTio instructor to apply what you’ve learned and receive helpful feedback
Straightforward assignments designed to help you master new material and prepare for your next career opportunity
Short online quizzes to demonstrate your progress and boost retention
Six hours of internship experience to build your resume and hone your skills
Exclusive job opportunities through MiTio’s established client network”

40% discount that still applies as of today when I checked their website which made me feel like I had to rush to get the “great deal”

What textbooks? All I got were 2 pdf files, a 6 hour internship which is really just the live sessions and the interactive videos are very outdated YouTube videos less than 5 minutes long.

They also have reviews from supposed students from 2015 and 2019 none for 2021 or 2022.

Not many good reviews on them period. I wish I would have cancel earlier, but it’s too late and they keep profiting off of unexpected consumers.

MiTio’s pricing is horrible. I would rather buy a course on Udemy or Udacity than spend my hard-earned cash on that nonsense. I have checked some of the reviews you have shared here. MiTio was making it seem as if these people are lying. LOL
